Soul Raiders is an action-oriented cooperative game developed by best-selling author Marc André (Splendor) and a team of talented artists such as Guillaume Tavernier (De Architectura) or Magali Villeneuve (Magic The Gathering).
In this fast-paced narrative game, players become powerful heroes. You can roam freely across a variety of locations and work together to prevent impending doom before it's too late!
An epic narrative game
Soul Raiders immerses players in a high fantasy setting; as mighty heroes, they must overcome the many threats to their order of war mages and the universe at large.
The game is structured like a book and divided into chapters or game sessions (1 to 2 hours per session). Each chapter represents a specific setting in which players complete quests, gather information, and increase their power to advance in the overarching story.
Spread across multiple chapters, Soul Raiders weaves an epic story around the players and their characters from one book to the next.
A fast-paced and cinematic game system
The game system features fast-paced and streamlined gameplay, fully focused on experiencing a story-driven, cinematic, and cooperative adventure.
Players act and explore their surroundings simultaneously. With no turn order, they can progress together or split up the party as they see fit to jump from one scene to the next.
Each location is made up of a series of tiles, places where the heroes can interact with their surroundings. They perform a variety of actions as they fight against the forces that oppose them, jumping from one tile to the next as the story unfolds, sometimes spread across different locations but always focusing on the heart of the story.
Build cooperative tension
The heroes live and die as a unit. Their life points are a common pool that is displayed along the side of the game board: each time a player takes damage, the marker advances. If he advances too far, the entire group will fail to complete the chapter.
Even if they manage to stay safe, time is running out quickly... The threat bar is another timer leading heroes to their doom. It advances as they encounter new creatures and events, and leads to their capture if they remain idle for too long.
Narrative story with high replay value
If they work together efficiently, each path can lead to the completion of the current chapter, as players don't have to follow a specific sequence of events, but try to complete independent and intertwined quests.
If the party fails, they can still move on to the next chapter and suffer a unique setback. Only the last chapter of the story needs to be completed successfully - otherwise they will return to the beginning of the volume.
This non-linear approach to a storytelling system, combined with the time pressure and the ability to progress the story further, make for a very good replay value of the gaming experience.
